At 9:30 in the morning, the Le Roy team arrived to compete against many schools. The wrestlers chosen to compete were Sexton at 106, Matlock at 126, Gulley at 138, Sant-Amour at 170, Shepherd at 195, and Osborn at 285. The team is coached by Coach Roberts and Coach Sant-Amour. The team had been preparing for this match for weeks, and all of this effort was going to show through that day.
Sexton had one of his most successful meets that day, earning his first-ever varsity tournament title. It was a big win for the team, and most definitely for him. Sexton has had much success with his past matches, and this time was no different. Matlock fought hard in his matches and earned second place with his effort and determination. Although everyone would love to get first, it was a huge achievement for his high school wrestling career. Gulley struggled the most through this tournament, having the flu, but still battled through both his sickness and his matches. Gulley won second place despite all of the odds being against him, and we couldn’t be prouder. Sant-Amour was the second of the two high school wrestlers to gain a big win for the team. He also won his first varsity tournament, taking out a #9 ranked 2A wrestlers in the finals. As this is Sant Amour’s last year as a wrestler, everyone can say they are very happy with this big achievement. Although the last two wrestlers on the team, Shepherd and Osborn, did not win their matches, both showed amazing effort and skill. We hope to see both of them continue to wrestle for the team for years to come and can’t wait to see their future wins. If you would like to see the wrestling team’s future matches, they will be competing again on the 1st of February at a home meet for HOIC dual finals at 9 A.M. They will also be competing on the 8th of February away for IHSA Regionals at 9 A.M. Lily Monigold - Writer At the Paw Print, we plan to periodically post teacher interviews.
