I was probably in kindergarten when I realized I wanted to be a teacher. My mom is an elementary teacher and I loved helping her grade papers and just being around the classroom so much was a big reason. Have you ever thought about pursuing a different career? If so, what? I have always wanted to be a teacher. I just didn’t know what I wanted to teach or what level I wanted to teach. I quickly realized that I loved math and I chose high school because my favorite teacher throughout all my school years was my high school math teacher. What is the best part about your job and/or about Le Roy High School? I love the small town atmosphere and being able to get to know people on a more personal basis. And I get to do math everyday, which is awesome! How long have you been teaching? This is my 7th year teaching. Why did you choose to teach the subject that you teach? I love math and love the way concepts and number connect to each other. If you had to choose a different subject to teach what would it be? I would choose PE or business. What sports/activities were you involved in during high school? I played volleyball, basketball, and softball in high school and I was also a member of a variety of clubs. I started playing basketball at Kankakee Community College for a year. Then, my second year I transferred to Parkland College and played basketball there for a year. I finished my last 2 and a half years at Eastern Illinois University. What was your college experience like? I really enjoyed being a part of my basketball teams at KCC and Parkland. When I was just a student at EIU, I worked a lot and studied a lot because my math classes were pretty difficult. In between working and studying, I found some time to enjoy a milkshake at McHugh’s.
