Lily Monigold - Writer/Photographer On Friday, February 28th, the Le Roy boys basketball team played against Roanoke-Benson High School in the Regional Championships. The bleachers were packed tight by students, parents, and other community members ready to watch the big game to come. The Le Roy student section was sporting maroon and gold and loud cheers to encourage the team. During the first quarter, Ty Egan scored a three-pointer, and the score was a close 5-6 with Roanoke ahead. Already feeling the pressure of a beginning close game, the team was ready to play with everything they had. By the end of the first half, the score was 11-17; still in reach of Roanoke. Le Roy was in Double Bonus. Number three from Le Roy, Max Buckles, was doing very well in the first half having scored six points. After discussing plays and strategies during half time, the team came out strong and excited to get back at it. Throughout the second half, the large crowd was getting riled up and excited. Both student sections were pumped and loudly screaming for their teams. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 18-23. With only one quarter left, both the team and the crowds were nervous and excited to see how the game would pan out. When there was 50 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Le Roy was only three points behind Roanoke. Much of the quarter was filled with the score being neck and neck, and many fouls and free throws for both teams. The entire Le Roy team played hard with the help of Ty Egan scoring a total of 19 points. The final scored landed at 32-40 in Roanoke’s favor. The Le Roy varsity basketball team fought long and hard and despite falling short in this game, should still be very proud of the team and how far they got. Be sure to congratulate the boys varsity basketball team on a great season! Shout out to Parker Hogue, Caleb Moore, Mason Buckles, and Ty Egan who competed in the three-point contest the night before. Caleb Moore advanced to the next round!

Who is your favorite band/musician?
Santana. What is your favorite food? A good old American burger. What are your plans for after graduation? Go to college to pursue computer science. If you're going to college or trade school, what's the name and where is it? Undecided. What is your favorite subject/interest? History and music. Interesting facts about yourself/anything else you would like to say. I've never had brunch. What was your inspiration for your sculpture? What object did you choose?
Mrs. Little gave us the assignment of making a sculpture of a hundred or more of one object. At first I thought of an easy way to get a hundred things. My mind instantly came to the bundle of bags I had at home. Now I had the objects, I just couldn't think of what to make out of them. Then, Kylie Mullis gave me the idea of a wave to symbolize all the trash and plastic that goes into the ocean. How was the project executed? (Did you run into any problems, anything you had to work around?) The only problem I ran into was use of space. I originally planned on flattening and layering the bags. Soon, I figured out that took way too much time. I solved my problem by lightly rolling them to give them more volume. How was your experience? It was definitely a fun, but challenging experience. I mostly glad that I was able to use something that people would normally throw away, into a creative piece of artwork.
participated in one of the harder brackets seen at the tournament. Ethan sadly lost his first match Thursday, but came back with a vengeance. Ethan won his match Friday and won his first match on Saturday. Ethan lost later that Saturday against the #1 seed, but his wins set off a chain reaction in the team.
Owen Gulley, the second wrestler to go to state, had the most successful weekend out of the entire team. Owen not only won his first match Thursday, but created a new state record for the fastest fall in 30 seconds at 138lbs. He went on to end the state tournament with 3-2, coming in fourth in his weight class. We can safely say Owen’s determination and strength truly paid off. Our third wrestler, Ty Baxter, did an amazing job alongside his team mates. He ended the weekend with 3-2 and came in fourth for his weight class as well. It seems our team had a small streak of wins for that weekend! As our last wrestler in the tournament, Grant Sant Amour had a terrific experience with this event being the first time he was a state qualifier. Despite losing his first match Thursday, he finished our the tournament with a 2-2 record. For his first time competing in this setting, we are all proud of his accomplishment. The Le Roy Tri-Valley High School Wrestling Team has not stopped working. They will continue to have more meets as we move on through the year. Make sure you come see one to see the pride and courage our team has!
