Lily Monigold - Writer/Photographer On Friday, February 28th, the Le Roy boys basketball team played against Roanoke-Benson High School in the Regional Championships. The bleachers were packed tight by students, parents, and other community members ready to watch the big game to come. The Le Roy student section was sporting maroon and gold and loud cheers to encourage the team. During the first quarter, Ty Egan scored a three-pointer, and the score was a close 5-6 with Roanoke ahead. Already feeling the pressure of a beginning close game, the team was ready to play with everything they had. By the end of the first half, the score was 11-17; still in reach of Roanoke. Le Roy was in Double Bonus. Number three from Le Roy, Max Buckles, was doing very well in the first half having scored six points. After discussing plays and strategies during half time, the team came out strong and excited to get back at it. Throughout the second half, the large crowd was getting riled up and excited. Both student sections were pumped and loudly screaming for their teams. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 18-23. With only one quarter left, both the team and the crowds were nervous and excited to see how the game would pan out. When there was 50 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Le Roy was only three points behind Roanoke. Much of the quarter was filled with the score being neck and neck, and many fouls and free throws for both teams. The entire Le Roy team played hard with the help of Ty Egan scoring a total of 19 points. The final scored landed at 32-40 in Roanoke’s favor. The Le Roy varsity basketball team fought long and hard and despite falling short in this game, should still be very proud of the team and how far they got. Be sure to congratulate the boys varsity basketball team on a great season! Shout out to Parker Hogue, Caleb Moore, Mason Buckles, and Ty Egan who competed in the three-point contest the night before. Caleb Moore advanced to the next round!
