there were seven races. Also, only top five teams and top five individuals made it to Sectionals instead of the usual seven.
The first race at 9:00 am was started out by girls ranked number one and two on their team. For us, this was Natalie and Avery. The next race was three and four girl runners; Lily and Caitlin. The last girls’ race was five, six, and seven runners Faith, Emmy, and Olivia. At the end, all of the times ran by everyone in each race were combined. Overall, we ranked number eight out of 11 teams. Sadly, this wasn’t enough to qualify us for Sectionals. However, Natalie Garneau from Tri-Valley qualified for Sectionals individually with a time of 19:49. The first race for the boys was ran by Henry, the number one runner. Next was two and three; Jamie and Carter. Three and four runners followed ran by John and Andrew. Lastly, six and seven runners were Kaleb and Alex; who also happen to be twins. The boys had an extra race because they had one more team than the girls. They finished 11th out of 12th. No boys qualified as a team or individually for Sectionals. This last meet was a sad one for many runners. With seven Seniors this year, it was many of their last cross country races ever. The seven Seniors are Emmy, Abby, Grace, Natalie, Caitlin, Jalynn, and Carter. Congrats to Natalie who will be moving on to Sectionals next Saturday on October 31 in Elmwood. She has also committed to running for Heartland next fall! The team also had an end-of-year banquet last Thursday to present awards and honor the Seniors. Each Senior received a blanket as a gift. They also each put together a slideshow of pictures and memories from over the years that everyone got to watch. This was a tear-jerker for many. The team voted on who they thought were the MVP and Most Inspirational from the boys and the girls. For the boys, MVP winner was Henry and Most Inspirational was Carter. The girls MVP winner was Natalie and Most Inspirational was Lily. The banquet was a great way to conclude a great season!

group of students put on a stunning show. The show “School House Rock Live!” is a musical set around a character named Tom, who is nervous about his first day of teaching. Throughout the musical, Tom is joined by many different characters to learn how to effectively teach his students while still having fun. With songs such as “Just A Bill,” “Interjections,” and “Do The Circulation,” the show is entertaining for both the performers and audience. Despite having a smaller stage space, the multiple background changes and props brought the whole show together. In the end, despite the wind blowing props across the stage, the musical was enjoyable for everyone. As most everyone knows, many of the Elementary and High School’s programs have seen many changes due to COVID. The chorus and band programs are no exception and have seen some of the more problematic changes. For one, both the band and chorus programs are no longer able to perform on the stage at the high school where a majority of performances are held. Secondly, actors cannot be as interactive as they once were because they must obey social distancing guidelines as much as possible. Now due to changes in location, they must battle weather conditions, which now limits their performance dates to when the weather permits it; however, they have handled these changes very well. While the chorus and band program will not be as consistent in performances as they once were, they still have many new plans and ideas to come. During the next few months, the High School chorus program is planning on performing new shows, and the Madrigals program is still supposed to run, so be on the lookout for updates about those programs! On Thursday, October 15, the Le Roy - Tri-Valley cross country team competed in a meet for SVC Conference. The meet was in Peoria at Detweiller Park. Before going into the race, the girls knew they would get at least fourth place out of seven teams. After doing calculations from racing against the other teams from previous races, we realized that we would have to have multiple runners do poorly to get any place lower than fourth. The teams we raced against were Eureka, Tremont, El Paso, Deemack, Heyworth, and Minonk. The race started off with girls that are the 6-10 runners on each team. Following them was the boys 6-10 runners from each team. Next, 1-5 runners from girls ran, and lastly 1-5 boys ran. The weather was one of the coldest meets we have had this whole season. Everyone was bundled up, and stripped down to their tank top and shorts right before racing. The course’s distance is very accurate, for it is pretty much right at three miles. This is because the course is usually a state course; for instance last year state was ran there. It is grassy and pretty flat. Everyone was ready to run a good race. Coach Albin said that it was important to do well at this meet because it will help set us up for Regionals. Even though many of the boys from our team ran well, they still got seventh out of seven teams. However, they were against some really good competition. For instance, the first place runner ran a 15:49 from El-Paso. The girls ended up placing fourth, which is what was predicted. The girls were also up against a lot of really good competition. For instance, Eureka has a really good cross country team and got first place by a wide margin. The first place girl from Eureka ran a 17:08. Natalie Garneau from Tri-Valley ran a time of 19:10 and placed third out of about 58 other runners. The next meet is Regionals at Olympia on Saturday, October 24th. This is the meet that will determine if our team will make it to Sectionals or not. The girls are currently ranked sixth, and Regionals takes the top five teams. It will be a close race, and everyone will have to run hard. Writer - Lily Monigold
The Tri-Valley - Le Roy cross country team had a meet on Tuesday, October 13 at Heyworth. The teams we were up against were Heyworth, Cornerstone, Fieldcrest, Olympia, and Peoria Heights. While this is more schools than most of the meets we have had this year, each school didn’t have very many people running on their team. Some of the teams also did not run their Varsity due to other meets coming up soon. The weather was in the 70s with a strong wind. However, during the race the wind wasn’t that bad. Heyworth’s course is three loops that is in the grass and goes through the woods. The woods helped to block the wind. The girls raced starting at 4:30. Natalie Garneau from Tri-Valley won first place with a time of 19.07. This was especially good for her because someone from Millikin University drove to watch her specifically race in hopes of recruiting her to their college team. Overall, this meet was a great race for the girls and a lot of PRs were set. Coach Albin was very pleased with the outcome; especially since the girls won. The boys race started at 5:00. They also had a good race for nearly all of the boys ran under 20 minutes. Olympia got first with 18 points, Downs got 42 points, and Fieldcrest got 72 points. The next meet is on Thursday, October 15. It is SVC Conference, so it is a big meet for us. The race will be at Detweiller Park in Peoria. This will be the last meet for JV. Also, seniors will be acknowledged at the end. The meet after that, Regionals on October 24, is also a huge meet for us. Sectionals, if we make it, is on October 31. The Le Roy - Tri-Valley cross country team raced at Maxwell Park on Tuesday, October 6. It was a U-High invite against U-High, Community West, Pontiac, and Cornerstone. Everyone was familiar with the grassy course for it was the third and last time the team ran it this year. The weather was fairly nice in the mid 70s and sunny with a little bit of wind. The girls started out at 4:30. Coach Albin gave each runner three time goals to aim for; the first goal would be amazing, the second goal would be really good, and the third would still be a good goal to reach for. U-High was racing their bottom ten girls, which was good for us because their varsity team is amazing. Natalie Garneau from Tri-Valley got first place out of all of the girls with a time of 20:06. After the race, she was interviewed by someone from ISU. She filmed her while she asked her about how the race went for her. Our team did a really good job with a lot of their girls reaching either their first, second, or third goal or getting close to it. Our team won the race with a score of 28. Community West and U-High had a close race with scores of 47 and then 48. The boys had two races again since there were a lot more of them. Our team all ran in the first race. U-High decided to run their best varsity runners on the team. Because of this, the top five runners in the race were all from U-High. The top runner ran a time of 16:58. The final scoring was U-High with 15 points (the lowest amount of points you can get), Community West with 51 points, Pontiac with 84, and Le Roy - Tri-Valley with 103. While the boys didn’t place very well, they were up against a lot of competition and really good runners. The next meet is a Eureka invite in Eureka this Saturday on October 10th. The team is beginning to prepare for the important meets to come. Conference, Regionals, and Sectionals will be coming up with the next few weeks with conference on October 15, Regionals on October 24, and Sectionals on October 31. |
