On Thursday, October 15, the Le Roy - Tri-Valley cross country team competed in a meet for SVC Conference. The meet was in Peoria at Detweiller Park. Before going into the race, the girls knew they would get at least fourth place out of seven teams. After doing calculations from racing against the other teams from previous races, we realized that we would have to have multiple runners do poorly to get any place lower than fourth. The teams we raced against were Eureka, Tremont, El Paso, Deemack, Heyworth, and Minonk. The race started off with girls that are the 6-10 runners on each team. Following them was the boys 6-10 runners from each team. Next, 1-5 runners from girls ran, and lastly 1-5 boys ran. The weather was one of the coldest meets we have had this whole season. Everyone was bundled up, and stripped down to their tank top and shorts right before racing. The course’s distance is very accurate, for it is pretty much right at three miles. This is because the course is usually a state course; for instance last year state was ran there. It is grassy and pretty flat. Everyone was ready to run a good race. Coach Albin said that it was important to do well at this meet because it will help set us up for Regionals. Even though many of the boys from our team ran well, they still got seventh out of seven teams. However, they were against some really good competition. For instance, the first place runner ran a 15:49 from El-Paso. The girls ended up placing fourth, which is what was predicted. The girls were also up against a lot of really good competition. For instance, Eureka has a really good cross country team and got first place by a wide margin. The first place girl from Eureka ran a 17:08. Natalie Garneau from Tri-Valley ran a time of 19:10 and placed third out of about 58 other runners. The next meet is Regionals at Olympia on Saturday, October 24th. This is the meet that will determine if our team will make it to Sectionals or not. The girls are currently ranked sixth, and Regionals takes the top five teams. It will be a close race, and everyone will have to run hard.
