The Le Roy - Tri-Valley cross country team raced at Maxwell Park on Tuesday, October 6. It was a U-High invite against U-High, Community West, Pontiac, and Cornerstone. Everyone was familiar with the grassy course for it was the third and last time the team ran it this year. The weather was fairly nice in the mid 70s and sunny with a little bit of wind. The girls started out at 4:30. Coach Albin gave each runner three time goals to aim for; the first goal would be amazing, the second goal would be really good, and the third would still be a good goal to reach for. U-High was racing their bottom ten girls, which was good for us because their varsity team is amazing. Natalie Garneau from Tri-Valley got first place out of all of the girls with a time of 20:06. After the race, she was interviewed by someone from ISU. She filmed her while she asked her about how the race went for her. Our team did a really good job with a lot of their girls reaching either their first, second, or third goal or getting close to it. Our team won the race with a score of 28. Community West and U-High had a close race with scores of 47 and then 48. The boys had two races again since there were a lot more of them. Our team all ran in the first race. U-High decided to run their best varsity runners on the team. Because of this, the top five runners in the race were all from U-High. The top runner ran a time of 16:58. The final scoring was U-High with 15 points (the lowest amount of points you can get), Community West with 51 points, Pontiac with 84, and Le Roy - Tri-Valley with 103. While the boys didn’t place very well, they were up against a lot of competition and really good runners. The next meet is a Eureka invite in Eureka this Saturday on October 10th. The team is beginning to prepare for the important meets to come. Conference, Regionals, and Sectionals will be coming up with the next few weeks with conference on October 15, Regionals on October 24, and Sectionals on October 31.
