Writer/Photographer - Miranda Little A little over a year after the U.S.A’s initial lockdown for COVID, Le Roy High School held their homecoming parade on Sunday, March 14th, the day before homecoming spirit week began. While the parade was not as long as past years’ parades have been, students and families alike were excited to partake in the event. The parade started off as most of Le Roy’s parades do with the Le Roy High School Marching Band. They did a rendition of One Direction’s “Drag Me Down.” Following the band was the Le Roy High School Cheerleading team, who was followed by this year’s homecoming court. Each pair rode in their own car with signs detailing which pairs were which. The pairs went in the following order: Morgan Shreves and Ty Egan, Emmy Tarr and Kamrin Givens, Colin Griffin and Maren Graybeal, Abby Anderson and Nathan Perry, and Angelika Campbell and Logan Petersen. Closing out the parade, the homecoming court was followed by many groups, including the Le Roy High School Football team, the Le Roy Junior Football team, the Le Roy High School Volleyball team, Le Roy’s Ambulance and Fire departments, and many others. The parade was a fun time for marchers and viewers, but this event is just the tip of the iceberg for this week. Sunday night at 5 p.m was the Freshman v.s Sophomore Macho Volleyball Game, and at 6 p.m Junior v.s Senior Macho Volleyball Game. Wednesday night will be the Homecoming Court King and Queen announcement with the Powder Puff Game happening right after. The powder puff game will be open to all who wish to come, so stop by and watch to support our panthers at the fun game. Writer/Photographer - Lily Monigold Yesterday night, the Freshmen and Sophomore boys faced off in a game of volleyball to see which class would win. This event followed right after the parade, and kickstarted the homecoming week. The only spectators allowed to this game were the Freshmen and Sophomores that were not playing in the game. However, the game was streamed on NFHS. The Freshmen were all decked out in green, and the Sophomores were decked out in yellow. The Freshmen side was coached by Mrs. Loy. On the Sophomore side, Mrs. Cooley coached the team. Starting off with the first game, the final score was 25-19 with a victory for the Sophomores. However, in the next round the Freshman beat the Sophomores 25 - 6. In order to break the tie, one more game out of 15 points had to be played. Many of the boys from both sides had some really good serves and returns. Noah Company, for instance, got the Sophomore team ahead with points with his powerful serves. The Freshmen boys were not able to hit them back. After going back and forth between points, the Sophomores finally won 15-13. The two teams were fairly evenly stacked, and there were intense moments of uncertainty on who would bring home the victory. The Macho Volleyball boys weren’t the only ones having a good time. The other class members, most of them being the class’s girls, were standing in the bleachers cheering on their classes. They got into the game; for instance, the Freshmen girls had some great cheers like ‘Go Bananas,” and the Sophomore girls had yellow towels to wave around in the bleachers. After the Sophomore’s victory, the rest of the Sophomore class gathered around the players and cheered them on for their win. Quickly after the game, both classes had to clear out for the Junior and Senior game. Macho Volleyball was a great way to get the high school hyped up for the week to come. Be on the lookout for the news to come on Powder Puff, spirit week days, and more fun homecoming activities this week. On Friday the 5th, the high school boys played two basketball games; one JV and one varsity game. Although this has been an untraditional year, the school, coaches, parents, and most importantly the players have done great things even with the restrictions. One fun thing that happened at this game was that the varsity cheerleaders wore the varsity boys away game jerseys. The teams played good defense; they were unselfish in passing the ball to their teammates so they could make the shot instead of making it themselves. They also were pressuring the ball and were more polished than the other team. Both teams played great games overall. The JV game at halftime had a score of 35 to 24 with Le Roy up. The boys played well at the game. They continued to play great and ended up winning the game with a score of 61 to 23. The Panthers had won! Way to go boys! The Varsity boys also played a great game. They played hard and their effort paid off. At halftime, the score was 43 to 22. The Panthers were looking like they were going to have another win. In the end, the Varsity Panthers also won their game. 86 to 52 was the final score. Congrats Panther boys! On Thursday the 4th, the girls basketball teams played two great games against Fisher. This was the girls’ last game and the cheer senior night for basketball. Although this year has not been very traditional, the girls did great. We have the coaches and our school to thank for how much effort they have put in to let these games happen all year. We should also thank the girls on the team for putting in hours of work. For senior cheer girls night, all of the senior girls received a bouquet of flowers and a tie-dye blanket of our school colors; maroon and gold. They were also announced and brought in front of the crowd with their parents. They were announced by Mr. Reschke. The girls were also given 4 tickets for spectators. The JV girls played the first game. At halftime, Le Roy was up 15 to 7. Le Roy continued in this pattern until the end of the game with a score of 27 to 19. Congratulations to the JV team on ending the season with a win. At Varsity halftime, the Varsity girls kept the same trend as the JV with a score of 37 to 21. The Varsity girls won their game with an ending score of 64-44. It was a great night for the Le Roy girls!
