The match started out with Mary Thayn who was chosen as the team’s captain for the meet. The position of captain is usually switched back and forth between senior teammates depending on who is available. Mary was in charge of making final decisions on answers for bonus questions, which can be quite stressful; however, Mary was able to take the pressure and performed excellently.
Throughout the match, both teams are given questions ranging in difficulty that test their knowledge on certain subjects. Some questions will be about math, some English, and others pop culture. One question that stuck with the team was the history of the Spider-Man movies that the Lexington team had as bonus questions. Throughout the beginning of the match, Le Roy and Lexington were neck-and-neck, having an even number of points on either side. Near the end of the first half, Le Roy took the lead in points but quickly fell behind. Unable to catch up, Le Roy lost the match 240 - 110. While Le Roy did lose, they were still excited to learn a lot of new facts and talk to the other team. This match comes as the second-to-last that the team will have before regionals. If the team scores high enough, they will be placed in the top ten teams. Check back soon to hear more about their placement!

Today, the JV and Varsity girls played against the Tremont Turks. Games look quite different this year, but this doesn't slow Le Roy down. The only people allowed in the bleachers to watch now are the Senior parents. However, you can watch the entire games on Facebook Live for free. Support the girls by checking it out! While not many people can watch the games in person anymore, the new ways using technology to watch digitally may even reach more people than before. Relatives and friends that live far away and were never able to make it to games can now watch in the comfort of their own homes. This could be something that changes sports-viewing even after COVID. The JV team had their first win of the season with an astonishing score of 46-34. At halftime, the score was 24-9. The smaller audience, masks, and everything else this year didn't stop their spirit! The Varsity team played hard the whole game. The final score was a loss for Le Roy 31-62. At halftime, the score was 13-37. The next basketball game for the girls will be this Monday at home against Heyworth. The Facebook Live may still continue, or it may stop soon and be replaced by a service that charges a monthly fee to watch. Be sure to check out Facebook for both past games and games coming up for the girls and the boys! https://www.facebook.com/LeRoyPantherAthletics/videos/3456254407816373/ il.8to18.com/leroyhs/activities/basketball/g
there were seven races. Also, only top five teams and top five individuals made it to Sectionals instead of the usual seven.
The first race at 9:00 am was started out by girls ranked number one and two on their team. For us, this was Natalie and Avery. The next race was three and four girl runners; Lily and Caitlin. The last girls’ race was five, six, and seven runners Faith, Emmy, and Olivia. At the end, all of the times ran by everyone in each race were combined. Overall, we ranked number eight out of 11 teams. Sadly, this wasn’t enough to qualify us for Sectionals. However, Natalie Garneau from Tri-Valley qualified for Sectionals individually with a time of 19:49. The first race for the boys was ran by Henry, the number one runner. Next was two and three; Jamie and Carter. Three and four runners followed ran by John and Andrew. Lastly, six and seven runners were Kaleb and Alex; who also happen to be twins. The boys had an extra race because they had one more team than the girls. They finished 11th out of 12th. No boys qualified as a team or individually for Sectionals. This last meet was a sad one for many runners. With seven Seniors this year, it was many of their last cross country races ever. The seven Seniors are Emmy, Abby, Grace, Natalie, Caitlin, Jalynn, and Carter. Congrats to Natalie who will be moving on to Sectionals next Saturday on October 31 in Elmwood. She has also committed to running for Heartland next fall! The team also had an end-of-year banquet last Thursday to present awards and honor the Seniors. Each Senior received a blanket as a gift. They also each put together a slideshow of pictures and memories from over the years that everyone got to watch. This was a tear-jerker for many. The team voted on who they thought were the MVP and Most Inspirational from the boys and the girls. For the boys, MVP winner was Henry and Most Inspirational was Carter. The girls MVP winner was Natalie and Most Inspirational was Lily. The banquet was a great way to conclude a great season!
their JV team, while Tri-Valley - Le Roy raced everyone. While the schools didn’t race all of their girls, they still had quite a few more people to race than us. We only had nine girls, and a total of 39 girls ran in the race.
This meet wasn’t the greatest meet for the girls. Coach Albin wasn’t very happy with some of the times and doesn’t think we were properly prepared to run. Some meets go really well and some don’t because everyone has off days. However, Natalie Garneau, who is from Tri-Valley, placed second out of the 39 girls with a time of 20:51. Also, despite Grace Loy being out for a while after injuring her ankle, she still came in and ran the race with all she had. The final scoring was U-High first with 19 points, Tri-Valley - Le Roy with 44 points, and Normal West with 65. There were so many boys that they had to have two seperate races. The first race had all of the Tri-Valley boys in it, and the second race was all Normal West runners. The first race had 39 runners and the second race had 31. They raced against many very fast runners. The final scoring was first Normal West with 17 points, U-High with 58, and Tri-Valley - Le Roy with 69. The next meet isn’t until October 6th, and is at Maxwell Park against U-High again. On Monday, the team will be doing their annual Crazy Insane Run. It is a practice where each runner tries to run as far as they can. Some are even going for a half marathon! festivities were not able to happen. The realization for Seniors that this was their last meet began to set in.
Many runners felt pressured to get a personal best for the season because Moraine View is a pretty good course to run on. The head coach, Coach Albin, said that he wished the last home meet was a little bit later in the season when everyone is stronger and more in shape. However, the team was still ready to give it their all. The weather was cloudy and in the 70s with not much wind. It felt a little hot while running, but it was still fairly nice weather. The boys started off the meet at 4:00 pm with the girls following at 4:05. Tremont won against the boys by five points. As for the girls, it was a very close match with Tri-Valley - Le Roy winning by one point. Natalie Garneau, Senior from Tri-Valley, is the number one runner out of the girls and ran a personal best time for her entire cross country career. She ran in the 18:40s, which ranks her number five out of all of the girls who ever ran on the team. The Seniors this season are Emmy Tarr, Abby Levingston, Jalynn Ford, and Grace Loy from Le Roy. The Seniors from Tri-Valley are Natalie Garneau, Caitlin McCane, Spencer Williams, and Carter Cassidy. Congrats to all Seniors for having a great season so far and for all the hard work they’ve put in these last few years. The next meet will be Friday, September 25th against Normal West at Maxwell Park at 4:30. |
