Lily Monigold - Writer and Photographer On Friday, January 30th, the Le Roy High School girls’ basketball team was excited and ready for the celebrations to come with Senior Night. In one of their last home games, the team was playing against Tri-Valley. The team is coached by Chris Houser, Joe Chastain, and Chip Warlow. The first game played was Junior Varsity. With only six people on Le Roy’s team, the quarters were cut to five minutes each. The six girls playing were Jadyn Walker, Rylee Swanson, Kailey Hubble, Sydney Owens, Abby Wood, and Taylor Koerner. Excited for the game to come, the JV girls gave it their all. By the end of the first quarter, the score was 2-6; Jadyn Walker had scored the first basket for the team. At half time, the score was 6-18. While the girls were beginning to feel defeated, they continued to play hard. The final score of the game landed at 10-31. While this wasn’t the score the JV was hoping for, there were many good shots made. For instance, Rylee Swanson scored six points in total from two baskets and two made free throws. Sydney Owens also made a basket. Right after the JV game, the seniors came out one by one onto the court with their parents. They received hugs and flowers for their hard work and dedication to basketball. The seniors are Charly Warlow, Kiera Spratt, Layna Spratt, and Taylor Bagnell. After receiving flowers and a picture together, the varsity team began to warm up for the competitive game ahead of them. The starters, Tiffany Bargmann, Charly Warlow, Taylor Bagnell, Layna Spratt, and Kiera Spratt, were announced and the game was about to begin. In the first quarter, Layna Spratt scored a good amount of free throws and the team was making good baskets with the score at 13-5. In the second quarter, three-pointers were made by Emmy Tarr and Layna Spratt. There were great assists, and Le Roy managed to still maintain a lead against Tri-Valley. At half time, the score was 23-17. The second half of the game got more and more intense as Tri-Valley began to get ahead of Le Roy. At the end of the third quarter, the score was tied 33-33 and the team felt the pressure to get ahead in the last quarter. The coaches, audience, and players were all feeling tense. Everyone was on the edge of their seats to see what would happen next. After the score fluctuating throughout the fourth quarter, Tri-Valley won with the final score being 41-45. The game was very close and all of the girls played strong and hard. Both teams were similar in skill as the score was close. Most importantly, the seniors got the chance to be honored for all of the years of hard work they have put into basketball. Congratulations to Charly Warlow, Kiera Spratt, Layna Spratt, and Taylor Bagnell for everything you have put into basketball and I wish you success in what you decide to pursue in the future!
